KFN files can already link to an external music source, without embedding that file. Is there any way you can program in the ability to link to other file types-- fonts and images, in particular? My thinking:
FONTS... When I make a KFN file, I always, ALWAYS use the same font, Century Gothic. This means that every KFN file I've built has a copy of Century Gothic embedded, which unneccesarily inflates every file by hundreds of kilobytes. I've probably used up 20 megabytes just in redundant copies of this font!
IMAGES... I use KFN files as a "wrapper" for DJ mixes-- I embed the music file along with Milkdrop effects, text updates ("Back to karaoke in 5 minutes"), and fullscreen image ads for upcoming events at the venue. The problem is, the ads change on a daily basis. As things stand, I have to manually edit the library of these KFN files to update the ads. If I could simply link to the image files, all of these KFN files would be automatically updated every time I changed the images.
Perhaps you could code in a "User Resources" directory that KaraFun and the Editor would access in the case of missing references-- so if a background change referenced "AD1.JPG", for example, KaraFun would first check its library, then the User Resources directory, for the file. If "AD1.JPG" was in neither, KaraFun would treat the missing file as a blank screen (or, in the case of a missing font, default to Arial or some such).
This functionality would vastly improve my KaraFun experience.
