I am not happy.

I've just spent the whole morning recovering my system after karafun destroyed it.

After downloading and playing with Karafun for a few minutes I really liked the software, and with the ability to run cdg files directly I decided to chose it over winamp+plugin (where you need to run the mp3 file - which I prefer wmp10 to keep it's association with)

So I went in to the option menu to chose to have all karaoke filetypes associated with karafun... and...

WHAM. All filetype associations on my system were removed, no jpg, no bmp, no mp3, no txt... etc etc.. the only ones that were still available where the ones assigned to karafun (cdg, kak...)

This doesn't sound too bad you are probably thinking to yourself..

BUT, this includes .lnk files (all shortcuts on your system become invalid), exe files (this means NO programs on your computer will run - including EXPLORER, regedit, cmd, etc etc...)

I've spent the last few hours trying to get my system to even boot into XP as it just hangs, without the ability to run any software or even the startmenu/icons. Luckily I have a good knowledge of computers so have managed to at least get into XP and fiddle with it to get it running to some extent. But I'm gonna need to do a clean install because of all the leftovers that never get recovered after something like this.

I really think this issue needs to be addressed very soon, as I don't want ANYONE else to have to sort out all of this crap like I've had to.

We'll contact you to know more about your PC configuration.
This is not a known bug and we want to know more about it.
Very sorry for the inconvenience.

If anybody else have this problem, please tell us to see what is the problem (third party application such as antivirus, firewall or something else...)

I've replied to the email with info on my setup/config.

At the exact time I pressed "ok" after making the changes to the associated filetypes, all of the icons on my desktop (including folders, shortcuts and programs) became standard white boxes as though they were not associated with any program at all.

It meant I could not run any programs, could not open a single folder, and after rebooting, could not even run windows.

As I said in the email, I hope it's sorted soon.

this sounds like the same thing i had trouble with the editor in version 1.2 of kara fun remember it caused all icons to not work and disapear?

not sure what you did to fix it but i emailed you about it and posted here? oh? that was the other board so it might not be posted here as the first board crashed.

but if you kept my emails and your replys you should have it the answer to mine some place and it might be the same thing?

i just don't change the assoication to the files anymore only to the kar files. and they all work?

i am thinking it is a firewall problem. or one of the other media players is fighting karafun for control of the files. but since it works here on my winxp with the kar files if it is one of the file formats being faught over it is not those ones.

and since those worked for me in making them be associated with karafun i thought this was fixed.?

hopefuly i have chatted on long enough that i gave you an idea of what the area to fix might be? but i can not remember anymore of the error i had do this to me.?

I very much doubt it's another media player fighting for it as I have no other media players that are associated with any karaoke files.

It happened literally the second I edited it in the karafun menu so I do believe that karafun is solely to blame.

I will try a beta version soon but my brother needs this pc for dj-ing tomorrow night so I will wait to try it until after then.

It's def not a firewall problem as well, as that has nothing to do with it after the program is downloaded.

I don't know how you tried to change the file associations as in weather or not you did it while inside karafun or options.?

if you did it inside karafun
then go to your folder options and find the formats you want karafun to use in there. then make each one use karafun to open with. and see if you can get it fixed that way?

the icon thing makes me think you might need to use ms's tweakui and go to that repair tab and repair the icons.

but something to think about.

my other computer does not have karafun on and it has some messed up icons lately so there might be something going around the net messing up icons again i have not heard of anything like that for awhile so something like it might be back in circulation?

still try the tweakui repair and then use those options to change the association the old fashioned way. it might work to get your computer fixed again before it is used for the dee jay party.

I know it was karafun which caused this as I've tested it again and caused exactly the same effect.

I honestly know what I'm talking about here Smile

Hopefully it should be sorted soon as I am trying to help them solve the problem Smile
