sorry to ask such a silly question, but how do you adjust the volume of the lyrics in a CDG or MP3 file?

Hi

No such thing as a silly question (well, not this one anyway Laughing )

Do you mean that you are using audio tracks that have lead vocals embedded on them (ie NOT just instruments & backing singers)? If you do, then I don't know of a way to remove the vocals completely. You can use the 'Vocal Reducer' slider in Karafun to help reduce them but they won't go completely.

Even if you choose to edit your MP3 file using another program (something like Audacity) you still won't remove the vocals - You can only reduce the equalisation around the typical vocal range. I've tried this in the past and I think the results are awful!!!

If this is not what you mean, please post again with more details and I will try to help.

Regards

CJ

after some more digging, I think I discovered what i really want is "CDGM" which includes a separate track for lyrics. unfortunately, it looks like karafun doesn't support this format.

Hi again

Do you mean CDG+MP3? If so, Karafun supports this format. Go to the Options Menu and in the General tab put a tick in the cdg box in the 'File types to associate' menu. That should do it!

I hope this helps?

I'm not sure that's the same thing, look at CDGM at this link --

http://www.dbkaraoke.com/help/formats.php

Basically, I want to be able to play and control the volume of the lead vocals of a song, and I don't know of any other way to get that other than CDGM -- which has a separate track for the lead vocals.

The CDGM is for Multiplex soundtrax, there is a feature on Karafun for multiplex so you can decide which channel is not heard ie left right or centre. However if you are using normal mp3+g you will most likely find that the vocals and instrumental are mixed on the same channel.

You will find a lot of modern tracks (original artistes tracks) are mixed in different channels to prevent people removing the vocals so that they can then use the instrumental track for themselves. This is fair enough at the end of the day as the artist needs some recognition for their talent.

I find on Karafun's song site you can find a lot of instrumental tracks with vocals and without. So if you are desparate for a certain track see if they have it and it is worth paying for.

Hope that all made some sense. I am not some expert only go from experience so maybe someone else can help if I got the wrong idea.
